1 year after GDPR data privacy laws

1 year after GDPR data privacy laws 1000 300 digital devotee
It’s been a year since the new data privacy law GDPR was enacted in the EU and effected the world.  Are we as consumers and businesses doing any better?  Not according to Ogury’s survey of over 287k global consumers!

A year ago the EU enacted a large scale data privacy law that effects all EU citizens no matter where they are in the world.  Pretty big stuff!  It gave rights to users to know who uses and stores their data and for what.  I wrote a guide for business on how GDPR effects your digital business from email signups to privacy policies.

Large fines can effect your company even if it is outside the EU (or if you have no EU users but have an EU site such as a URL like .es or .de).  It also applies to non digital data such as those paper files you have for employees that you’ve stored longer than they know.

So one year later it seems consumers still don’t feel better informed about how companies use their data and companies are not really doing a great job of explaining it.

After GDPR came into effect do you feel that you have a better understanding of how companies use your data?
no
I don't know what GDPR is
yes
What type of data would you be prepared to share to avoid paying to view content or use apps?
mobile apps and websites I use
I prefer to pay
my contact details: e.g. email
How many consumers read consent notices?
read (average time taken 25 mins)

The first year is up.  The grace period is over.  Fines will become more frequent.

Play Ogury’s GDPR quiz and see if you know how this could impact your business
