WHAT

Waverlylabs’ Pilot is an in-ear language translator Indiegogo project (USD3M so far) due to ship May 2017.

HOW

Wearable technology using speech recognition, machine translation, and voice synthesis.  Your voice is passed through the smartphone app which simultaneously translated.  It works offline too.  It’s manufactured nearby in Shenzhen.

SO?

Babblefish.  It’s coming!  Mine is already ordered.  The first version will have problems.  It won’t be as accurate as they hope.  But it’s on its way and that’s what matters.  We’re already seeing this with Skype’s machine translation and, though the results can be pretty funny, you can feel the benefits of easing global communications.
